INTRODUCTION

I’m not naturally a crunchy organic gal, but recently I’ve decided to do a little bit of Spring Cleaning within my body. In fact, I’ve talked my whole family into doing it with me! It’s not just a diet, but rather a purification process to get rid of the toxins within our bodies. It’s gonna be a challenge; that’s for sure. Anyone who knows me and my espresso fixes in the morning will attest that this won’t be a walk in the park. But I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been feeling blah-ish lately, and I think this is exactly what is needed!

My good friend and chiropractor held a Purification Seminar at Orlando Sports Chiropractic.  The program is called Standard Process.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to this, AND taking your kids if you plan to do this as a family.  It especially opened my kid’s eyes to the daily toxins that they encounter.  We learned what the 21-day program would involve, and allowed the kids to ask questions.  After the seminar, and once we were ready, I went to the store to stock up… here we go!

Day 1

Today everyone is excited to FINALLY start this 21 day journey. We have been planning it for weeks, but we intentionally waited until after Valentine’s day to begin, knowing that it would be extremely hard for the kids (and us!) to be in the induction week amidst the chocolates!  Even though the main focus of the Purification Process is to make our bodies healthier, Andy, Alex, Drew and I definitely would like to shed some LBS — so we all have weighed ourselves to see what our starting numbers are. (yikes… I hope this works!)

We went to the store this past weekend to get a new blender.  Over the last 8 years, ours had finally blended it’s last smoothie, so we picked up this Ninja system that is amazing! The price wasn’t too bad, and it has 4 different containers.  We also got an inexpensive juicer from Walmart… only $30!  I’ve already tried it out, and so far it really works great. (Here’s praying that the $30 dollar price tag doesn’t mean it will quit anytime soon!)  We also picked up all kinds of food for this 21 day journey.  By food, I mean fruits, veggies, some wild rice, and lentils.  We will get to add in some fish and chicken on day 11.

Breakfast was a smoothie for all.  I blended up some frozen strawberries, bananas, blueberries, blackberries, and the SP Complete powder.  It wasn’t bad, but I think we will have to work on this recipe.  The kids didn’t complain, but I think they were thinking the same thing as me.  We made up their lunches.  This is where I think it might be tough for the kids.  They are used to the sugary Debbie cakes (bad mommy), sandwich and chips.  Today their lunch consists of celery, cucumbers, carrots, plums, and a banana. Hmmm…

They’re out the door, and as for me, I’m in final push mode to get the next issue of babyourself magazine to the printer.  Usually I would grab a coffee from the kitchen and take it to the computer and start working, OR on occasion I will run up to the McDonalds to get a large caramel frappe adding 3 shots of espresso (hold the whip topping)… ya, it’s a BAD habit I started (and this one might hurt.)  I have gradually cut back on the number of times of getting my “coffee drink”, but I still don’t have a good feeling about it.  So instead, I drink my blended smoothie and take the 10 morning pills recommended with this cleanse… ya, I said 10… 3 x a day.  It’s not bad though, plus I felt good about the huge glass of water that I just drank in order to get them all down.

10 a.m. Got a call from school.  Drew’s tummy is upset…. hmmm, is it the diet? Or is it the flu that is travelling around?? ughh

OK… busy day, so my journaling might be a bit shorter.  Lunch, I sauteed some yummy mushrooms with basil and garlic.  More water.  I’m doing good! (Drew’s laying on the couch, achy, it looks more like flu bug)

Dinner- Lentils with carrots, onions and celery.  Sauteed vegetables.  Diced sweet potatoes in the oven.  Andy was impressed.  He was thinking that there wouldn’t be any form of a “warm dinner”, and everyone enjoyed it (well except Kaitlyn… ah yes my Kaitlyn a.k.a. by little bird.  She’s 8 and very petite, so we are doing a modified version of the diet for her, but still trying to eliminate sugar)  I know we should be eating more “raw” veggies, but for our day easing into this diet, I think it’s OK.

I’m not feeling too well tonight.  I’ve got a headache which is most likely from the lack of coffee, but I also feel a little achy.  NOOOOO!

Day 2

The kids don’t have school today, so it makes the whole “breakfast, lunch” prep easier for me.  I still feel awful.  It’s gotten worse actually.  Again, not sure if this is the detox happening in my body or the flu, but I hope it goes away soon.

Today we are grazing since it’s not a school day.  I feel bad not journaling as much, but this headache is killing me.

Day 3

Headache is still present but I’m feeling better.  Journaling yesterday was impossible.

We have a Saturday morning tradition of coffee and breakfast outside by our outdoor fireplace.  Instead of coffee, today it’s hot green tea and some fruit.  I put the fruit in a gorgeous presentation on this tray… I gotta do something to make it interesting!

The ki ds are getting used to the changes.  To make “normal” food less of a temptation, I put everything up on higher shelves and removed the sugar canister off of the counter.  Our shake recipes are improving.  I LOVE MY JUICER!  Oh my goodness…. and I have a shake recipe that I am loving!  (It’s actually one that’s inspired by my friend Vickie (who is also the foodie in babyourself magazine).  She did an article called Green Goodness in the Mar/Apr Spring issue all about folic acid.  She made a green smoothie that I LOVE. Here’s my modified smoothie recipe based off of her recipe…

a bunch of spinach (juiced)

a large carrot (juiced)

apple (juiced)

then pour that in the blender with frozen strawberries and blueberries and the SP powder. Mmmm, the recipe is getting better!  Alex LOVES this shake too!

Tonight we watched a movie together as a family and I quickly thought of making up some sweet potato bites in the oven again… I lightly salted the pieces and divided them up into little bowls and gave one to everyone… no complaints… it was kinda like a dessert and popcorn rolled into one.  Perfect little pieces to pop into your mouth during the movie.  I was quite proud of myself. 🙂  Who would have thought!

Corley family More daily journal entries will be posted here soon as we continue the journey! But if you are already asking how you can start this program as well, Orlando Sports Chiropractic has a purification seminar about once a month.  YOU SHOULD GO!!
