The athlete was born to parents Lane and Yoonie Whitcomb on September 28, 1998, in Thousand Oaks, CA. He grew up in a loving household with an older sister named Ashley and a younger sister named Kylie.

While he attended Newbury Park High School and, subsequently, the University of California, San Diego, his parents encouraged him from a young age to pursue his passion and provided him with a nurturing environment to grow.
On Saturday’s match, both parents were present in the stands cheering for the player Shay Whitcomb. Likewise, the media caught a sweet interaction between Shat and his parents when he scored a double to right-center. He subtly dedicated it to his cheering parents by gesturing with his hands.

Before that, he was Sr. Director of Medical and Scientific Writing at Arena Pharmaceuticals from August 2018 to September 2019 and Executive Director of Medical Writing and Regulatory Operations at Esperion from August 2017 to August 2018.

Prior to these roles, Lane spent over two decades at Amgen, where he held multiple leadership positions, including Executive Director of Global Regulatory Writing and Operations, and earlier roles in Medical Writing and Research from 1992 to 2017.
While Shay’s mother, Yoonie’s LinkedIn profile, is unavailable, her articles on various nutritional topics is available online. Likewise, she was seen teaching students about nutrition in a post shared by a non-profit organization called A Step Beyond.
Additionally, Yoonie and her daughter frequently donate nutritional fruits and vegetables to needy organizations. She was a great help to SanDiago Community Resource Center in 2020 during the COVID pandemic.
