The 41 year-old coach talked about his battle with alcoholism and how he became sober in the media conference in 2023.
Meanwhile, he said that his dependency on alcohol cost him a lot in his life. He shared that his addiction came during his early career when he was working as a coach with Houston Texans in early 2006.
His addiction also led to his dismissal from his position as coach at Houston Texans in 2008, but this didn’t change anything. McDaniel started drinking every night for years and suffered from depression and alcohol dependency until one day; he realized that it was enough.
After 10 years of being addicted, Mike McDaniel decided to stay sober. He joined a rehabilitation center in 2016, where he spent three years and discovered his true passion for his athletic career.
In an interview with HBO, Mike McDaniel shared that he started getting up early and took 865 days off from the NFL to rebuild his career.
He also created his slogan, “Adversity is opportunity,” and has stayed sober to this day. On this basis, his now changed looks might be the effect of his addiction problem.
