Wes Moore, the 63rd governor of Maryland since 2023, has always been vocal about his religion. He is a devout Christian who often visits churches and posts about his religious affiliations on social media.
On July 18, 2023, during his election campaign, Wes shared a video on Facebook captioning, “My grandfather, the first Black minister of the Dutch Reformed Church, taught me to have faith, not fear. Those are words I live by and lead by.”
Further, he is frequently seen delivering speeches at churches and hosting ‘faith nights’ for religious groups, as he considers himself a God’s child.
While addressing a Black History service a year back, Wes Moore Said, “I want to be very clear. I understand the difference between church and state and …all the legal implications, but I want to be clear that I am a child of God.”
Similarly, Moore has stated in speeches that he strongly believes God has already predetermined people’s steps and actions, and that’s why he sticks to its values.
Governor Wes Moore recently posted a YouTube video expressing his and his team’s gratitude for Maryland’s Faith Communities!
In a recent YouTube video, Governor Wes Moore, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, and Dr. Laura Hargrove expressed their deep thankfulness for the positive impact of faith communities across Maryland.
Moore, who also leads the governor’s Interfaith Council, said, “I am a person of deep faith, and I know that Maryland is stronger and better because of diverse faith that are represented accross our wonderful state.”
Likewise, all three pointed out how these faith communities help foster peace, combat hate, provide essential services and offer hope to many residents. Likewise, Governor Moore highlighted that these communities are crucial in bringing people together and fostering mutual respect.
In the same way, Lieutenant Governor Miller highlighted how these communities are always there to support those in need. She praised their efforts in feeding the hungry, providing shelter, and offering educational programs.
In the same video, Moore noted that the faith communities’ efforts make Maryland a bright example of service and compassion. This also shows that Wes Moore is open to supporting the overall growth of people of all religions, as a good governor should.
Although he is deeply into the Christian faith, Wes Moore believes in the inclusivity of all religion. Moore himself has married an interfaith woman, Dawn Flythe, who comes from the Bahá’í Faith, which emphasizes the unity of all major world religions.
With all these positive aspects of the Moore administration, they seem to truly care for the good future for all, irrespective of their religious affiliations. He is indeed a son of God who believes in equality and freedom.
