Walter G. Ehmer, an American businessman renowned as the president and chief executive officer of the restaurant Waffle House, recently passed away on Saturday at the age of 58 after battling cancer.
According to several reports, Walt Ehmer was suffering from a long illness caused by pancreatic cancer and passed away on September 8, 2024. However, the circumstances surrounding his demise have not been released yet.
Furthemore, the Atlanta Police Foundation, where Walt Ehmer was on the board of trustees, announced his demise through a social media post.
The post stated, “Walt was a dedicated leader, a tireless advocate for public safety, and an unwavering supporter of our mission to build a safer, stronger Atlanta. His passion for community service and steadfast commitment to improving the lives of others will leave a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.“
Many of his friends and colleagues are sharing their heartfelt condolences to Walt Ehmer’s family and loved ones in response to his demise.
Walt Ehmer’s friend from Georgia Tech also shared an emotional post on Facebook, stating how humble and great a friend he was and that he loved his family more than anything.

Walt Ehmer was not just a great businessman but also a great husband to his wife, Kara Petracek Ehmer, and an amazing father to his three children, Gregory, Anna Kate, and Lesley Ehmer.
Moreover, he often shared pictures of his son, daughters, and wife on his social media platform, expressing his love for them. His wife, Kara Petracek Ehmer, posted about Walt on her LinkedIn account, regarding him as an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and leader.
Walt’s wife, Kara Petracek Ehmer, is a strategy project execution marketing and business development employee at Plow Horse, a business consulting and services company located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Before her role as a business development officer at Plow Horse, Kara was the chief strategy officer at PBD Worldwide and the managing director at MiddleM Creative. She also worked as the director of marketing and strategy at Citizens M&A Advisory.
Similarly, Kara earned a sociology degree with a concentration in business from Wake Forest University and worked at the Georgia Tech Alumni Association for more than 11 years.
Walt Ehmer’s children, Gregory, Anna Kate, and Lesley Ehmer, also have outstanding careers. Walt’s son Gregory is a business analyst and global operations manager at Home Depot, whereas his younger daughter Lesley is a senior logistics analyst at the same company.
Likewise, his elder daughter, Anna Kate Ehmer, works as a commercial account manager at Novelis; before that, she was the Atlanta Braves’ guest relations representative.
