A few years back, Olympic gold medalist Sharon Van Rouwendaal was romantically involved with her partner, a German swimmer Rob Muffels. Rumors surrounding the relationship started in 2019, right before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The rumor was further ignited by a picture posted by Sharon herself on Facebook. It showed the two posing alongside a pool with the caption ‘Monday motivation!,’ with the hashtag, ‘openwaterswimmingcouplegoals.’
The couple was seen hugging, confirming the rumors. They also attended our X Cross Solidarity Walk together in 2019.
Amidst all the uncertainties regarding their relationship, Volksstimme magazine also mentioned Sharon as Rob’s girlfriend. While they seemed to be a happy couple, nothing further was clarified about their relationship.
A year later, Muffels started getting seen with another lady swimmer named Lea Boy, and no posts related to Sharon and Rob’s relationship were ever posted again. So it seems the couple has parted ways mutually.
It’s been a while since Sharon hasn’t spoken about her relationship, which may hint that she is currently single or is not interested in revealing her current relationship status.
Olympian Sharon Van Rouwendaal dedicated her gold medal to her late dog instead of any family members, suggesting her pet is important to her!
Sharon van Rouwendaal recently won Olympic gold in the women’s 10km marathon swimming. She dedicated her gold medal to her dog Rio, who passed away before the Paris Olympics began in May.
The 30-year-old athlete had a deep bond with her pet dog, who is no longer alive. On June 24, the four-time world champion and eight-time European champion shared her dog’s picture on her Instagram on his birth anniversary.
In the caption, she wrote, “Today you would have turned 8 years old. There isn’t a moment I don’t miss you. I think about you every single second of the day. You’re my one and only. Happy birthday my little man. Mommy loves you.”
Currently, she appears extremely heartbroken about what happened to her beloved dog, Rio. To honor her dog, she even got a paw tattoo on her right wrist with its name on it. As of now, she seems more focused on her own work than relationships while grieving for her doggo.
