Pravin Gordhan, the former South African Minister of Public Enterprises and a key figure in the fight against state capture, has passed away at the age of 75 after battling cancer.
On September 10, 2024, Pravin’s family had released a statement revealing his sickness, saying, “The family of the former Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr. Pravin Gordhan, would like to inform to the media and public that he has been admitted to hospital…and receiving the best available medical care.”
In the meantime, an illness that Pravin Gordhan was yet to disclose. The family was hoping for good results, but sadly, just three days later, on September 13, the former politician passed away.

In a statement on Friday, the family said the former politician, Pravin Gordhan, met an ultimate demise at an early hour Friday at a hospital after fighting Cancer, describing his battle against the illness as short but spirited.
Soon after the sad news emerged, many, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, began offering condolences to the bereaved family.

The family of activist Pravin Gordhan admitted him to Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg after being diagnosed with Cancer on September 10.
Well, now that he is no longer alive, but in the meantime, South African citizens might agree that Gordhan has had an eventful and engaging career serving the public.
Since 2009, he has held other indispensable cabinet positions, such as the Minister of Finance, Minister of Local Government, and Minister of Public Enterprises.

Similarly, he was also a decade-long commissioner of the South African Revenue Service. Even in his last letter, Gordhan called upon the people to fight corruption, keeping alive the spirit of anti-apartheid activism.
His legacy remains a commitment to justice and democracy, an indication of the zealous way he served South Africa and its people throughout his life.
