Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso, reportedly expelled from the Olympics, is seemingly of Hispanic ethnicity, considering her origin!

According to HOY reports, Luana Alonso wanted to represent United States in the Olympics instead of her homeland Paraguay.

Lately, Asuncion-born swimmer Luana Alonso has been in the media headlines for being expelled from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It has been reported that she was asked to leave the Olympic Village for her inappropriate behavior, which was against the team’s code of conduct.

As the news swirled over the Internet, it apparently scarred the image of the 20-year-old swimmer, eventually leading Luana to address the rumor. She released the statement, saying, “I just wanted to clarify that I was never removed or expelled from anywhere. Stop spreading false information.”

Well, whatever happened, it’s now the truth that she has already announced her retirement from swimming. However, the controversy Luana Alonso faced recently ignited people’s curiosity about her personal life, especially her ethnicity.

While the former swimmer has yet to reveal details about her family background, she is more likely to be Hispanic since she is originally from Paraguay, one of the Latin American countries where the majority of people of Hispanic descent live.

Luana Alonso’s surname also indicates that she might belong to the Hispanic ethnicity!

It’s well-known that Luana Alonso is a Spanish-language speaker. Whenever she converses with her audience, she proudly uses her native language.

On July 27, she took to her Instagram to inform her audience that she had officially retired from swimming, and she made an announcement in Spanish.

Her caption read “Ya es oficial! Me retiro de la natación, muchísimas gracias a todos por el apoyo! Perdón Paraguay ♥️ solamente me queda agradecer!,” means she apologized in front of her country Paraguay as well as expressed her gratitude for its support in her swimming career.

Well, a Spanish speaker, Luana, holds two surnames, ‘Alonso’ and ‘Mendez,’ of Spanish origin from her maternal and paternal sides.

Sources say ‘Hispanic’ refers to Spanish-speaking people and cultures, especially in countries like Latin America. Based on this fact, it can be assumed that the now-retired swimmer Luana Alonso belongs to Hispanic ethnicity.
