Amber Thurman, a 28-year-old woman, was single-parenting her son and didn’t have a husband or a partner when she tragically lost her life due to a rare complication from an abortion pill.
Born on September 16, 1993, Amber Thurman was a single mother of a six-year-old son when she tragically expired. She loved being a mother to her kid.
According to ProPublica, she took her son to petting zoos and pop-up museums and on planned trips, like one to a Florida beach, whenever possible. “The talks I have with my son are everything,” she posted on social media.

Additionally, according to reports, even when she was taking her last breath, she was really worried about her son and told her mother, “Promise me you’ll take care of my son.”
Moreover, Amber, a medical assistant, planned to attend nursing school for her and her son’s better future. Unfortunately, her dreams remained unfulfilled, and she left the world too early.
A woman from Georgia, Amber Thurman, lost her life due to a delay in medical care caused by the abortion ban!
Amber Thurman, who was already a mother, conceived for the second time in the summer of 2022; this time, it was a twin pregnancy. Due to her reason to preserve her newfound stability, she decided to terminate the pregnancy, her best friend Ricaria Baker told ProPublica.
She wanted a surgical abortion, but the timing was worse as on July 20, the day Georgia’s law banning abortions at six weeks took effect, she had to schedule a D&C at a clinic in North Carolina.
Even though she scheduled a D&C, due to some problem, one of the employees from the clinic suggested she go for a two-pill abortion: mifepristone and misoprostol.
Although doctors normally considered the pills safe, they could have rare complications, and unfortunately, she faced those complications.

On August 18, 6:51 am, her boyfriend, whose name is yet to be revealed, called an ambulance and rushed her to Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge as her condition deteriorated over several days, leading to severe bleeding and vomiting blood.
Doctors diagnosed her with acute severe sepsis, and she needed high care due to her critical condition. But the hospital didn’t transfer her to the intensive care unit until 6:45 am on August 19.
The doctors at the hospital discussed initiating a D&C, but they did not do it, and later, they discovered that her organs were failing. At 12:05 p.m., over 17 hours after Amber’s arrival, an intensive care specialist informed the OB-GYN that her condition was worsening.
So at 2 p.m., doctors finally took her to an operating room, but by that time, it was too late, and she unfortunately lost her life during the surgery.
