British singer Freddie Mercury never married and had no children of his own, but he was the godfather of his ex’s son!

Freddie Mercury passed away at the age of 45 unmarried and childless.

Date:

Freddie Mercury, a well-known singer who is currently in the news headlines for his unreleased song that he wrote before his demise at 45, never married and did not had any children of his own, but he was a godfather to his ex’s son.

Well, in the early 1970s, Freddie Mercury had a long-term relationship with Mary Austin, a Fulham, London native whom he met through guitarist Brian May in 1969.

During their courtship, the two lived together in West Kensington, London. But after being in a relationship for more than half a decade, Freddie confronted his sexuality with Mary, leading to their break-up.

Despite ending their relationship, they remained friends through the years. Mary Austin later married Piers Cameron and gave birth to two children, and Freddie Mercury was the godfather of Mary’s older son, Richard.

Freddie Mercury is said to have had multiple relationships throughout his life!

Shortly after his breakup with Mary, Freddie began dating David Minns, an American record executive at Elektra Records.

Further, he had an intense love relationship with German restaurateur Winfried “Winnie” Kirchberger and lived temporarily at his apartment. But, the two also separated later.

After that, Freddie started dating Irish-born hairdresser Jim Hutton, who cared for him during his illness and remained by Freddie’s side until his last days.

Despite being in several relationships, Freddie Mercury never married anyone and fathered any children.

Freddie Mercury never openly talked about his sexuality but revealed that he had HIV/AIDS before his demise!

Freddie Mercury’s sexuality has always drawn public attention because, as a young guy, he had dated both men and women.

While some said that he hid his sexuality from the public, some commentators are saying that he was openly gay.

Likewise, some people think that he was bisexual, including his ex-girlfriend Mary Austin. However, Freddie had never discussed his sexuality in a public forum.

But before his passing on November 24, 1991, he disclosed that he had HIV/AIDS, issuing a statement that read, “Following enormous conjecture in the press, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV-positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private in order to protect the privacy of those around me,” as per Biography.

Sources report that he started getting early symptoms of HIV in 1982, but for years, Freddie denied the reports about his illness, just like he never addressed his sexuality.
