Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki passed away on 9 August, Friday. According to her husband Dennis Troper’s statement, she battled non-small-cell lung cancer for two years before finally bidding goodbye to the living world.
After the cause of the demise emerged, debates have divided the internet over whether Susan Wojcicki was a smoker or not. A reddit post shared by r/news had fans thoroughly discussing all the probable reasons she got lung cancer. Many appear to have agreed that she didn’t get lung cancer due to smoking.
A Redditor named MinxyMyrnaMinkoff expressed his concern, saying, “Diagnosed with lung cancer at 54, dead two years later, yikes. I need to NOT go back to smoking, no matter what!” Unlike that, some believe radon used in daily life causes lung cancer.
Likewise, another user, outlier74, came up with the view about Susan Wojcicki, saying “Just because she had lung cancer does not mean she was a smoker. YouTuber Jenny Apple got lung cancer… She never smoked a cigarette.”
Though there has been a wide discussion about how Susan got lung cancer, her bereaved husband, Dennis Troper, has chosen not to address the issue.
Susan Wojcicki passed away 6 months after her 19-year-old son passed away in February at the University
While battling cancer itself was not easy for the former CEO, her last 2 years were full of tragedies in other matters, too. First, her father, Stanley, passed away on May 31, 2023, at the age of 86.
Continuing the bad fate, in February this year, Susan’s 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, passed away in his dorm room at the University of California, Berkeley. While the demise was relatively hidden, sources revealed he passed away from a drug overdose.

According to SFGate reports, Marco had consumed a high amount of alprazolam, as well as cocaine, amphetamine, and the antihistamine hydroxyzine; however, his passing was determined to be accidental.
Just 6 months later, Susan also left the living world. In this regard, fellow Redditor Techically_Regarded6 commented, “... It’s so horrible for her husband to lose both of the people he loves most so soon.”
Meanwhile, sympathies have been pouring on Susan’s husband of 26 years, Dennis Tropper, and their other four kids, who have no choice but to carry the weight of this loss for the rest of their lives.
In such a difficult situation, The Moms Magazine family expresses our deep condolences to the Troper family. May god grant them the power to overcome this grief.
